The Necky shirt in dress form
I love the mystery in making clothes for the kids. The mystery is will it be wearable or not, will it come out as I pictured or not?
I am still very intrigued by apparel sewing because there is so much more to learn about it. I would love to take a class and become more educated in this area of sewing. To be able to sew more things like pants or even clothes for me, but I am sure one day…. But today I wanted to share with you an attempt in the right direction.
While I was vacationing in Seattle I of course had to go into as many sewing stores as possible- (I mean convince my husband!) One day we took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island and made our way over to Esther’s Fabric Store http://www.esthersfabrics.com/
Of course they had adorable fabrics and I could have spent forever in there. When I visit different sewing stores I tend to see what kind of knit fabric they have, because I have found that cute good quality knits are hard to find. I found this adorable knit and had to buy some, I don’t think I have ever seen such a cute quality knit before. So that is where this adorable unique fabric came from.
Of course I have been brainstorming ever since first sight of how I was going to use this cute print. A few weeks ago I sketched up a little something like this….
I am super surprised how this dress for Baily came out- it is very simple pattern pieces and techniques, but I am starting simple and hope to one day get more detailed. This is also why I like working with a good quality knit fabric because it is very forgiving in fitting to size.
The neck part of the dress is something that I have come up with myself about 6 months ago here: http://www.sew4the1.com/blog/2013/10/the-necky-shirt-for-girls.html
I hope to keep doing more variations of this style and try and incorporate a boy version of it too.
I really enjoy sewing as a whole and I have really enjoyed the challenge of sewing apparel.
Thanks for reading my journey through it all.
