I thought I would share with you where the inspiration for
these owls came from.
I was walking through the isles of the $1 store, which I do
often, and came upon this cute felt owl!
I just loved how the owl looked and knew I could use it for
a stencil for something.
A few weeks later, the idea of a pillow came to mind.
Here are the supplies I used
-
Fabric marker
-
This cute felt owl from the dollar store
-
Any solid color fabric that will show your owl
-
Fabric for the back of the owl, solid or print.
-
Coordinating thread
-
Fabric marking pen
First step is to cut out both pieces of fabric. Place felt
owl on top of your fabric pieces and cut around the owl leaving about 2 inches
extra.
Now you are ready to start tracing your owl.
Use your fabric marker and start coloring in all the details
with the fabric marker, being sure to keep the owl from moving around. (don't
trace the outside of owl)
After you have an outline of the details, you can remove the
felt owl and color it more if desired.
If you have a light table that would be helpful for this
next step. I just used a window in my living room.
Take your solid piece of fabric that you drew the owl on.
Put that up to the light with the right side down (wrong
side of owl up)
You are going to place the felt owl on top of solid piece of
fabric that you drew the owl on (I lined up the eyes to make sure I had my felt
owl the right way)
And trace the outline of the owl body so you know where to
sew.
Almost done,
Now that your owl is complete and you have the outline of
the body of the owl drawn on the wrong side if your solid piece of fabric that
you drew the owl on, you can lay your two pieces of fabric with the right sides
together.
Use your coordinating thread and stitch around the outside
of your owl body leaving a 4” opening at the bottom for turning and stuffing
your owl.
Turn your owl right side out and start stuffing.
Keep stuffing and stuffing…
Tada- hand stitch up the bottom of the owl and there you
have it!!
I hope you enjoy!!
