Marimekko dress look alike

I just made this dress using THIS tutorial over at The Mother Huddle blog.

I went to the ARC a few weeks ago and saw this fun print.

It reminded me of MARIMEKKO who is a wonderful designer.

It was really cool to be able to go into one of her stores this summer in Stanford, CA.

I love to find fabric at thrift stores and yard sales because they are so unique, and most are good quality compared to what you can buy at JoAanns.

This piece was a sheet bedding by Target. I was so excited when I saw it because I like to sew with silks etc but they are so hard to work with and hem. This sheet was a thicker silk and all ready hemmed all the way around! YES!

So I picked it up for $1.07 and had just this dress in mind.

Just like any project the prep work took the most time.

I cut out all the pieces and left the already chunky hem from the top of the sheet as the bottom of the dress.

I love me some thick hems!!

I love how the dress came out and I am excited to do other variations of the dress. This is a 4-5 size but can easily be adjusted.

A little tip- I know fabric and sewing can be expensive, I tend to do a mock run on some cheep fabric like a sheet etc. Then when I am ready to use the fabric that cost money, I feel more comfortable with the pattern.

Let me know if you give this dress a try- it was really fun to make!
